Meet Our Founder & Executive Director
Karen Hunter
Karen Hunter is a Health Education Specialist II, Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW), and Peer Support Specialist (PSS) with Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness.
With over 14 years of sustained sobriety, a proven track record in community organizing, and certifications as a CPR/BLS Instructor, WHAM Instructor, and Stop the Bleed Instructor—along with expertise in infodemiology—Karen leads with lived experience, professional skill, and deep compassion for the communities she serves
She's passionate about connecting people with the tools they need to survive — and thrive.
Karen is a dedicated public health advocate, and the visionary Executive Director of Threshold of Hope Community Development Co., a nonprofit committed to empowering underserved communities through direct support, education, and resources. With over a decade of hands-on experience, Karen wears many hats—and wears them all with heart.
As a Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW), Peer Support Specialist, CPR/BLS Instructor, Stop The Bleed Instructor and Health Education Specialist II for Louisville Metro Public Health & Wellness, Karen provides critical services including health education, peer support, and life-saving trainings such as Hands-Only CPR and Stop the Bleed. She regularly organizes health and resource fairs, distributes food to families in need, and builds partnerships to extend Threshold of Hope’s reach throughout Kentucky’s most vulnerable communities.
Karen also volunteers her time to ensure community members are not only heard but helped. Whether she’s delivering food boxes door-to-door, purchasing school shoes and haircuts for children, or leading public health workshops, her work centers on equity, compassion, and sustainable change.
